Off tomorrow - Sea Princess
Testing times. With the Diamond Princess stuck at Yokohama, our hearts go out to those stuck on board, in quarantine.
We have always enjoyed sea days (and nights), but that has been with the ability to roam the ship, 24 hours a day. Enjoying the fresh air, maybe even kicking a ball around the sport’s court, or just curled up at some ungodly hour, unable to sleep, but happy to have a drink, maybe a bite to eat and with a favourite book.
Maybe even chat to another insomniac, temporary or afflicted by pain, or maybe even someone either chucked out of the cabin for snoring, or sneaking out so as to not wake a sleeping partner. Freedom.
Daytime it has usually been a day of breakfast in the buffet, a ‘Men’s Shed’ meeting, followed by morning trivia, (Zumba for some, but not me - often the older ladies only go if it is a hunky male instructor, just waiting for him to take off his shirt), ukulele class or dance class, late lunch, relax in the cabin or on deck.
An early show before dinner, with a late show after. Often a late night drink and chat in the atrium.
But confined to the cabin for days on end? That has to be tough, even with room service.
Needless to say, there are those who seem to think that cruise ships are crowded, unhygienic, travelling petri dishes anyway, and can think of nothing worse.
Up fairly early tomorrow for a flight to Brisbane (where it is wet) leaving behind a very, very dry Auckland. Seven days on the Sea Princess, with long time Kiwi friends now living and working in Labrador, just north of Surfer’s Paradise.
This will be Julie’s second cruise, having done the Auckland to Sydney leg with us, at the end of the 2018 World Cruise. This time, with husband Brett and we have adjacent cabins, on Baja deck but this is Brett’s first cruise. Just three ports – two of which are tender ports, so hopefully the sea will be calm.
Looking forward to it anyway, but two formal nights? Leaving the DJ/tux at home, but I am taking my recently acquired Mickey Mouse waistcoat.
